Jackie Yaklin is a Crow Member of the Trondek Hwechin by birth. She was adopted out as an infant and enjoys having two families – a birth family of First Nations people and an adopted family of non-First Nations people.

Jackie learned to knit from her mother, who learned to knit from her mother, who learned to knit from her mother – and on it goes, from generations to generations.

Using furs which are the product of a First Nations tradition alongside wool, which is the product of a non-First Nations traditions, Jackie feels she has found the product which truly reflects her heritage.

Jackie enjoys working with pure fibers and experimenting with new knitting techniques.

Currently, Jackie is developing knitting with strips of fur. This method is new to her, though it had been used by Yukon First Nations in past centuries. It is a traditional Yukon First Nations method.
