The Cranberry Fair is Whitehorse’s premier craft fair. As the only juried fair of Yukon artists and artisans it has earned the well-deserved reputation for works that are “Finely Crafted. Expertly Selected. Lovingly Presented.” The Northern Fibres Guild, with support through the Yukon Arts Operating Fund hosts the annual event. Reporting to the President of the Northern Fibres Guild (NFG), the Co-ordinator is tasked with the successful presentation of the event.

The 2020 Cranberry Fair will be held November 29 at the Kwanlin Dun Cultural Centre (KDCC) in Whitehorse.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have excellent organizational and communication skills;
  • Have demonstrated event planning experience;
  • Strong computer skills; and
  • Be familiar with the Yukon arts community.

Duties of the Co-ordinator include:

Invitation to Artists

  • Advertise in local media and through social media to make artists aware of application process and deadlines
  • Co-ordinate the submission (and return) of artists’ examples for jury consideration
  • Convene a jury of 3 local artists, two from the broader arts community and one from the NFG
  • Notify applicants of their status and support the collect table rental fees from Fair participants

 Preparation for Fair

  • Present proposed budget allocations and updated timeline to NFG
  • Meet with KDCC to discuss layout and other logistics
  • Update and maintain Cranberry Fair Facebook and web page
  • Prepare and distribute advertising materials (posters, etc.)
  • Update all document
  • Liaise with NFG for artists’ snacks, volunteers, and NFG silent auction and members’ tables 
  • Provide regular reports to the President of the Northern Fibres Guild

Day of the Fair

  • Arrive at the KDCC at least 2.5 hours early to ensure layout is correct and to allow time to rearrange if necessary
  • Assist artists with their set up, if needed
  • Oversee NFG volunteers throughout the day
  • Respond to any issues that arise
  • Distribute participants’ survey

After the Fair

  • Prepare financial statement and fair report by December 15, 2020
  • Provide NFG with paper and electronic copies of all documents

Contract Value and Time Commitment

  • The value of the contract is two thousand dollars ($2,000.00)
  • While recognizing that everyone works at a different pace the average time commitment for this contract is estimated to be 60 hours
